OUR STORY
From storing cold to understanding it
Our team started working together in 2014, on a premise: the last major roadblock to a clean energy future is not cheaper solar panels, wind turbines, or electric vehicles — it’s getting huge amounts of intermittent renewable energy onto the grid, with load flexibility and energy storage. So in 2016 we founded Axiom Exergy and built the Refrigeration Battery: hardware that stored energy in a grocery store’s refrigeration system itself. It worked. But after years alongside store facilities teams, we kept seeing a bigger problem. Refrigeration racks fail silently. Leaks run for weeks before anyone notices. Energy is wasted around the clock, and nobody has time to watch the data that would catch all of it.
The insight that changed the company: the data was already there. Every store controller was quietly logging temperatures, pressures, and compressor behavior. Nobody was listening to it.
So in July 2020 we rebuilt the company as Axiom Cloud: AI that runs on the controllers our customers already own, no new hardware. The first apps carried the thread. Virtual Battery turned a supermarket’s frozen inventory into thermal energy storage, no lithium-ion batteries required; Virtual Technician put the same data to work on the maintenance, energy, and refrigerant problems that plague the industry; Facilities Analyzer (early 2021) added enterprise visibility across whole portfolios. Those apps grew into today’s modules: early leak detection, predictive maintenance, energy optimization, and HVAC. In 2021 our software predictively identified its first refrigerant leak at a grocery store, before anyone else knew it existed. It has been doing that, at growing scale, ever since. And we run as a managed service, not a tool: every anomaly the AI raises is reviewed by a US-based refrigeration specialist before it reaches a customer.
The name never changed its meaning. Exergy is the portion of energy available to do useful work; it’s still in our DNA. We exist to stop useful work from being wasted in the world’s cooling systems.

Axiom Exergy closes, Axiom Cloud is born.

First refrigerant leak detected — predictively, without new sensors.
Axiom’s AI predictively identifies and diagnoses its first refrigerant leak at a grocery store, before business interruption and before further emissions. The first of many.
AUG 2023
AI Early Leak Detection launches.
Axiom releases its AI-based early refrigerant leak detection module, tested at 242 grocery and cold-storage facilities, the product line that drives a surge of adoption among enterprise retail grocery and cold storage companies.

Patent granted.
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) grants Axiom Cloud U.S. Patent 12,359,856 for AI-powered refrigerant leak detection, with or without receiver level sensors.
The platform compounds.
AIM Act automatic-leak-detection enforcement begins January 1, 2026, and Axiom customers enter it already compliant. The platform adds the HVAC Optimization Module and the AI Insights Agent, and extends full anomaly detection to transcritical CO2 refrigeration — live in production at a major US grocer, alongside the conventional hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) systems and ammonia-based cold-chain facilities Axiom has already served. No. Axiom Cloud deploys remotely through the refrigeration controllers and building-management data a facility already has. There are no new sensors and no site visits to activate, which is how the team has deployed as many as 109 sites in a single week — and why sites typically go live within weeks, not quarters.
Not without your approval. Axiom Cloud’s access is read-only by default: it monitors and analyzes, but changes nothing. Customers can opt in to automated changes through the Axiom Managed Resolution (AMR) feature — and even then, every change requires the customer’s pre-approval, granted individually or in batches. Approved fixes are expert-verified and applied remotely, with no truck roll and with comfort and safety guardrails built in.
Axiom Cloud is SOC 2 Type 2 certified and audited annually. The platform works from the operational telemetry a facility’s controllers already log — temperatures, pressures, and compressor behavior. Security practices are documented at axiomcloud.ai/security.
You do. Axiom Cloud’s Terms of Service state that customers own all right, title, and interest in their Customer Data, and Axiom treats it as confidential. Axiom may use that data to deliver and improve the service, including in aggregated or anonymized analytics.
No, for two reasons. First, refrigeration degradation is continuous, not episodic: compressors drift, valves stick, setpoints get overridden, and new leaks start. The first year typically clears a portfolio’s backlog of pre-existing problems; after that, each module keeps generating value on its own cycle as new faults emerge — while continuous monitoring holds earlier fixes in place, so gains don’t quietly backslide. Second, the platform itself compounds: new anomaly types are added every month, models keep learning from a growing dataset, and coverage and integrations keep expanding — so as urgent problems clear, deeper optimizations take their place. Cooling systems never stop producing valuable problems to solve, and Axiom’s customers keep seeing returns after multiple years of service.
